Today's band needs no introduction. They took the US music scene by storm in late 1964 with hits such as "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter", and "I'm Henery the Eighth, I Am", among many others including numerious cover versions. Herman's Hermits' had a hit in 1967 with this song, "There's a Kind of Hush"

Hello again, after a 3 month hiatus I'm back again, but this time I'm only going to post once every week (or that's the plan, it may be more).

Today's band had a successful single top 5 hit, sold over a million copies of their self-titled album debut, made a promotional video, and was never heard from again.

Today's band formed in 1963, and among their string of hits, was a string of even more memorable musicians, including Eric Clapton, Jeff_Beck, and Jimmy Page. I'm of course speaking of the fabulous The Yardbirds, presented here for your listening pleasure.

Here it is! Today's video featuring the fabulous Rolling Stones! The Rolling stones formed in London in April 1962, ahead of the onslaught of Beatles clones, and were well established by the mid 60s when the British Invasion was in full effect.

Vaudeville meets Hollywood

...Palace that is.

Today's song and video feature the famed but easily forgotten New Vaudeville band which formed in 1966, and had a single big hit with the song Winchester Cathedral. The video also includes at the start the band's next biggest hit, "Peek-a-boo" with some hillarious speech bubbles throughout.

It's not those guys

Today's video features the singular hit from Them, the band that Van Morrison first hit it big with, before he charmed us with a story about his Brown Eyed Girl. Them started in Belfast in Northern Ireland in April of 1964.

Not just a Wild Thing

Today's selection is a woderful song from the Troggs. The Troggs formed in 1964, and had several hits including Wild Thing (Promotional Video), With a Girl Like You (Promotional Video), and Love Is All Around, the song and promotional video of the day (this was a very difficult choice, because all three of these songs are amazing).

Not the living dead

Today's song/video comes from the classic 60s band The Zombies.
The Zombies' was a band from England that formed in 1961 and scored several US hits including She's not there, Time of the Season, and today's song, Tell Her No.

The Left Banke is higher than the right

Today's band formed at the height of 60s rock in 1965, and made a niche for themselves in the Baroque Pop scene. Their first album Walk Away Renée/Pretty Ballerina featured the bands only two major hits. The first of these two songs is today's video, the eerie "Walk Away Renée" released in 1966.

5-4-3-2-1

A classic by the band that is probably best remembered for their hit song Do wah diddy, I present to you 5-4-3-2-1 by Manfred Mann!! This clip appears to be from Shindig!, but I"m not really sure.

Manfred Mann was a British beat band in the early and mid 60s named after their keyboardist. They created this song(which rose to #5 in the U.K.) as a new theme song for ITV's Ready, Steady, GO! in 1964.

The first post

Here it is folks, the first post to cristen the "Phillip's Songs" Blog. Each week(assuming that I remember) I will post one of my favorite music-related videos on this Blog. This will mostly mean old TV appearences of 60s groups(but others also like Tears For Fears) from old TV Shows such as Hullabaloo, Shindig, Shivaree, Where The Action Is, The Smothers Brothers' Comedy Hour, Top Of The Pops, Beat Club, and other clips from Local (and syndicated) American TV shows. Also these post will (ideally) include a short bio of the artist, a story related to the song, or at the very least a link to Wikipedia(this could include the former(s), but will include the later).

So without further ado, here is the first video to cristen the channel(after much internal debate):

It's the Hollies on SHINDIG! in 1965 playing "I'm Alive"
along with their most recogniseable song(at least at the time) "Just One Look", a cover of a song by Doris Troy.


Also, the Shindig! Dancers(Shindancers?) do some very 60s dancing throughout.
